Pines Hiking 05 > Skywatch Friday

Then from the sad west turning wearily,
I saw the pines against the white north sky,
Very beautiful, and still, and bending over
Their sharp black heads against a quiet sky.
And there was peace in them; and I
Was happy, and forgot to play the lover,
And laughed, and did no longer wish to die;
Being glad of you, O pine-trees and the sky!

Pines Hiking 04

Patricia, I and Aita arrived in this beautiful grassy track, from where we could see the whole pines forest on the left side of photo. And how’s Aita? She disappeared, but we were not worry about that, since we know that she always can find us. We continued walking ahead to the west, following this track. We knew that we’d arrive at more dense forest.

Pines Hiking 03

When Patricia, I and Aita hiked at Cikole pines forest last weekend, at certain point, we arrived at small hill. We climbed, and unexpectedly we saw a small beautiful grassy track which I'll show you tomorrow. Can you notice in the picture, how Aita lead us?

Pines Hiking 02

Last weekend Patricia, I and Aita hiked in the pines forest at Cikole, and suddenly we arrived in the area of young pines trees. I think, they are not more than 2 year old. We stood at the hill, from where we could see the beautiful contour of the whole green pines forest.

Pines Hiking 01

Yesterday, Patricia, I and Aita went again to Lembang, my favorite place to spend our weekend. Cikole was our choice, and I of course, Aita was very enthusiastic. Pines forest is always her great fun. We decided to explore the western part of forest, and here are the pictures of our hiking time! Starting from the gate of Cikole Gate of Tangkuban Perahu, we walked on the stones way to the south-west. Aita, as always, pointed herself to be the pioneer of the group. The day was hot, but surprisingly fresh! Tomorrow, I'll continue with another picture of our hiking experience.

Fuego, the fire of Cihideung

The first thing that attracted us, Patricia and I, when we entered Fuego, the barbeque and grilled restaurant at Cihideung, was a beautiful wooden ceiling. This restaurant was newly opened at 2nd of June 2008, so it was the main reason why we choosed barbeque as our lunch. An open air concept gives a fresh environment and we enjoyed it very much. We ordered ribs, and guess what! Delicious! Fuego (spanish: fire) just gives more life to Cihideung. Though, I don't know why they tagged this restaurant in Spanish.

Colourful Cihideung, the Local Flower Market

Lea begged me to show pictures of Cihideung, the local flower market we have here in Bandung :-). So Lea, you're right. I just realized that I never put pictures of this market situation in this blog. I just showed the flowers, and told you how I fancy this market very much. And then, I went to this market last weekend, and took several pictures of Cihidueng, our colourful flower market.
Cihideung is about 7 km from the center of Bandung city to the north. No public transport to go to this market, so the easiest way to go there is just ride your own car. The flower sellers are packed for about 5 km along the Sersan Badjuri Street. You can find almost all tropical flowers and plants with reasonable price. You never had enough time to spend in this market. The only thing you want to do when you visit Cihideung is, just walk, watch, walk, watch....

Hunting the legal one?

This DVD black market, Kota Kembang at Dalem Kaum, was closed a couple months ago by the police. But when Patricia and I just passed by this place yesterday, they open it again! Kota Kembang was full with people hunting illegal DVDs, no, the legal one! :).

They worked together with the people of Kampung Manteos cleaning plastic junks from the river. In this activity, they succeed installing the water purification unit using membrane technology from poluted water of Cikapundung river.

Best friend

Finally, I really want to introduce our princess, Aita, to all of you. She is 5 year-old bird hunter, naughty! She becomes one of our reasons to laugh every day. Being a very good friend of ours, she always praises us every time we arrive at home. Her hobby is exploring the pines forest close to Lembang, 20 km to the north of Bandung.

At the corner of BSM

One corner at Bandung Super Mall (BSM), the largest mall in Bandung located at Jalan Gatot Subroto at South of Bandung. Before I moved to Cimahi, Patricia and I used to go to this mall. That time we bought everything for our daily life in this place, since they provide almost everything here.

This man, Pak Ujang, has some goats and cows in his village, Desa Kapal, at Lembang. Every single day he has to go to forest near his house to take elephant grass for his livestocks. He has to climb Gunung Putri (Princess Hill) to arrive in the area where he can cut some elephant grass and put them on his soldier walking home.

Campaigning for Mayor

Soon, we will have to elect Bandung's major mayor. Yes, an election time! For that reason, you may expect the campaign attributes hanging at every corner of the city. Although people seem not too care about it, three big baligos were placed in the front of city hall's gate, exposing the incumbent major mayor, Mr Dada Rosada, one of candidates.

Eki, thanks for the correction!

School holidays mean sale season. Depending how you see this marketing strategy, but for me, it's a very dangerous spot for spending time ;-). Just a matter of how low they can go.

Handmade Umbrella

This umbrella (in Bahasa Indonesia: payung) used to be a symbol of social status for Sundanese ladies. In this age? Not anymore, though. This embroidered extravagance umbrella is one of the most beautiful handmade umbrella made in small city to the east of Bandung, Tasik Malaya. When I saw it in the Cooperative Fair, I couldn’t help myself to stay away from it. That time I remembered that Patricia loves it very much.

Free Candies

Still a story about Bandung Ethnic Food Festival held in the end of June 2008. In one corner of food festival arena, I found a mountain of baskets full of traditional candies. Traditionally, Indonesian people like sweet food very much, that's why we can find sweet snack made of broad varieties of sweet starch called "dodol". When I saw this enormous amount of free dodols, YES it's free, instantly my mind just flied away to my childhood time when my aunt used to give me my favorite dodol made of nangka (jackfruit).

Jaipongan, Sundanese Traditional Dance

Jaipong or Jaipongan is a very popular Sundanese traditional dance. Jaipong used to be a social dance performed by couple, girl and boy, but lately it became a staged dance usually performed by girls like the above picture. This dance is accompanied by gamelan, a traditional music ensemble played by a group of musicians.
This picture of dance performance was taken in Ciwalk during the Sundanese Food Festival.

July 2008 Theme Day: Cinema Safe

Have you ever seen the pirated DVD produced by the 'not-so-clever' people and recorded by the camcoder or cellular camera? If so, you will understand why Cinema XXI put this 'no recording devices of any kind are allowed' sign in the front of theater main gate. But oh, this small sign is not enough, so that they have to explain why it has to be like that in separated banner, in Indonesian language (bahasa Indonesia) ;-). And yes, you are not allowed to come in to the theater if you have weapon with you. I really don't know if they've ever found people with weapon in the theater.
